Artist Biography
Currently, Kristina works in a Marketing capacity for higher education at a local University. She firmly believes that effective marketing can only be achieved with effective graphic design. The higher education field is important to Kristina and she is proud to be able to go to work every day and make a positive impact in the world of higher ed by simply doing what she loves.
A proud graduate of the University of Rhode Island, Kristina received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Studio Art and concentrated in Graphic Design, 3-D Modeling and Animation, and Drawing & Painting. She is currently in the Print Design Certificate Program at the Rhode Island School of Design.
During her 4-year course of study at the University, she assisted Judith Tolnick, Director of the former University of Rhode Island Fine Arts Center Galleries as a Gallery Intern. During that time she collaborated with freelance designer Martha Langer of Pear Ink Design on the design of the 2006 Annual Juried Student Show Poster. That partnership resulted in a paid internship at Pear Ink Design, during which time Kristina worked on print collateral, corporate identities and project management.
Kristina also worked as an Undergraduate Researcher for the National Science Foundation’s Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) based at the University of Rhode Island (Kingston, RI). While there, Kristina modeled and textured the Ancient Sanctuary of Demeter & Kore from Corinth, Greece. Upon graduating, she was asked to participate in an International REU Program, this time in Darmstadt, Germany at the Technical University of Darmstadt. Funded by the National Science Foundation, she modeled the Temple of Apollo from the ruins of Pompeii, Italy, in just 4 weeks.
At the end of this international research program, Kristina was asked to contribute her graphics of Pompeii to Computer Graphics (CG) Topics, the magazine of the INI-GraphicsNet. Kristina also partners with Shane Colvin of the University of Oslo, Norway. In 2007, she designed a corporate identity for Oslo Celebrations, a collaboration between South Africa and Norway celebrating 10 years of academic partnership. In 2008, she’s illustrated the identities for the International Adoption Conference of Norway (May 18-19, 2009), and the National Graduate School in Educational Research, a partnership between all Norwegian universities and one university college. The school is co-ordinated by the Faculty of Education at the University of Oslo.
As a Rhode Island native and a lover of South County, RI, Kristina uses the beautiful area beaches, sunsets and sunrises as inspiration for her fine art.
Many of her landscapes include the sea and sky elements. She enjoys capturing the essence of the area with her own photography, and then translating the images into her own acrylic and pastel creations. She also designs custom acrylic paintings which are created to suit her clients’ needs.
In her spare time, Kristina enjoys staying active and playing sports. She loves photography, food and culture. And, for the next several months, she and her fiance will be planning their May 2011 wedding!
